A CALL TO THE 11th WORLD CONVENTION.

Dear Friend,—We count on greeting you and many comrades and friends from your dear land .\t the eleventh Convention of the World’s Women's Christian Temperance l nion, to he held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 11-17, 1922. We shall strive to make this Convention the most educational end inspiring in our history. It must mightily develop that international spirit through which, with Cod’s help, we shall carry to victory the great principles to which our organisation is committed peace, purity, prohibition. By Prohibition, we mean the extermina tion of the legalised beverage liquor traffic, this objective to be attained in each country through methods best suited to its particular requirements. We need you. dear friend. Hy coming yourself, and bringing with you many fri* nds, you can help us realise much of our great hope for the world. Please* l>egin now to plan, pray, and work for the* success of this important Convention. Please give* widest pub lieity to its dates, its noble purpose, and its inspirational programme. We are to l* the guests of the Pennsylvania W.C.T.U. For the fifth time, tne National W.C.T.U. of the United States, of which the Pennsylvania W.C.T.U. is one of fifty-three State auxiliaries, extends its warm welcome to the World’s W.C.T.U., of which from earliest yearn our National Union has been a constituent member. We take pardonable pride in the coming of the World’s Convention to our Republic for the* first time since the outlawing of the b* veruge liquor traffic- in effect now for two years. It was the fervent wish of our honoured and beloved Lady Carlisle that this eleventh biennial meeting should be held in the United States. She believed it would be of immense value to our worldwide activities to study at first hand the benefits derived from outlawing the truffle in beverage alcohol. In a peculiar and very tender sense this meeting will be our memorial to one who for many y*-ars grandly led us toward the high ideal of a world redeemed. It is most appropriate that this memorial meeting should be held lr. the horn*- country of the founder of the World’s W.C.T.U. Frances K Willard.

The Convention hall will be the beautiful historic Academy of Music, in the "City of Brotherly Love”- Philadelphia. May sisterly affection characterise our family gathering of the nations, and prove a prophecy of the coming day of world-peace, based on the Fatherhood of Clod and the brotherhood of man. We shall have a fine programme. We shall show many unique, educational phases of America’s one hundred years’ struggle against the liquor forces. We shall be thrilled as distinguished speak--1 rs from many lands tell us of the victorious progress toward our common objective -world peace, world-purity, and world prohibition. There shall be exhibits, with special emphasis on Child Welfare and Scientific Temperance In structions. The famous Polyglot Petition written by Frances E. Willard, addressed to all the Governments of the world, will constitute an inspiring and conspicuous exhibit feature. Our ho* pitable hostesses have in mind many charming plans. Delightful social gatherings will make us bettor acquainted. The young people and the child ren will come to us with pageantry and song. We shall hold work* rs’ conferences for the discussion of our W.C. T.U. programme. Excursions will be arranged preceding the opening of the Convention. We want you to visit our capital city, Washington, and othi r nearby points of interest. For details of these excursions, please write to our Honorary Secretary, Miss Agnes E. Slack, Caxton Buildings. Ripley, Derbyshire, England. Please come to Philadelphia, dear friend, and help determine how best and mast speedily we con < rente public opinion throughout the* e*iviliseel world in favour of peace, puiity, and prohibition. The H* lleview Stratford Hotel, in Philadelphia, one black from the Academy of Music, will b<* our headquarters during the Convention. Some of the morning meetings will be- held in its handsome and convenient As** rnbly Hall. The annual Convention of our National W.C.T.U. will be* held at Atlantic City. New Jersey, Immediately following the Philadelphia Convention. Its dates are November 18-23 We greatly hope many of our overseas comrades and friends w l ’’ remain with us long enough to attend our National Convention.

They will receive an exceedingly warm welcome.—Truly and affectionately yours, ANNA A. GORDON.
