N.Z. TRAVELLING SECRETARY.
RFPORT FOR MONTH ENDING OCTOBER stl*. iqis. # Travelled through Clinton, Ashley Downs, Waiwera, and Wairuna. Formed branch of Union at Balclutha on September 9th; membership 30. Addressed Presbyterian Young Women’s Bible Class on the work of Union. Left Balclutha on the nth, called at Lovell’s Flat to interview Mrs Grant, (then) Hon. Secretary for Somerset members ; secured 15s 6d membership fees, am! attended to other business, after which I travelled to Milton and Milburn, and arranged to commence work throughout th* district. Thanks to Messrs Rennie, Dabinett, and Ilayon, who motored me to Milburn, Clarendon, Tokoiti, Clerksville, Money More, and North Branch, 1 was able to secure ,£67 ns, also four “White Ribbon” subscribers. Arranged to form a branch at a lat**r date, if advisable. Arrived in Dunedin on the 19th. Returned to Dunedin on the 30th, and arranged to visit Milton on October 3rd, Mrs Coghill having arranged for a meeting to be held in the Town Hall, in order that 1 might explain the origin and work of the Union. Mrs Coghill presided over a very enthusiastic meeting. As a result it was unanimously decided that a Branch be formed. Everyone donned the white bow. The following officers were elected : —President, Mrs Coghill; Vice-Presidents, Mcsdames Featherston, Grant, Allan, and Sister Agnes; Recording Secretary, Miss McGuigan; Treasurer, Mrs Rennie; “W.R.” Supt., Mrs Currie. Other officers to be elected at next meeting. Decided to hold meetings the first Wednesday in each month, at 2.30 p.m. An etfort to be made by President and Secretary’ to secure the use of Council Chambers or some other public room. The membership now stands at 50, including 16 Somerset members from T.ovell’s Flat, which I secured on a previous visit; “W’hite Ribbon" subscribers, 12; total number of members for the month, about 47, and “W’hite Ribbon” subscribers 18. Please see N.Z. Treasurer’s report for month’s financial statement. Saturday, September sth, purchased the necessary books to rule and fill in all particulars for each officer. May I strongly advise authorised officers,
when forming branches, to personally attend to the Jatter, as it is quite impossible for new officers, knowing little or nothing about our work, to be successful if this is not done; also, it will save Organising Secretaries who come after, much time and trouble, trying to straighten out things. The newly-formed Branches at B.ilclutha and Milton are specially blessed with capable officers, who are most anxious to become well informed on the many departments of work taken up b\ our Union, that they may be thoroughly’ efficient. MYRIE WEYMOUTH, N.Z. Travelling Secretary. Address: C/o Miss Henderson, 8.A., N.Z. Corresponding Secretary, 26, Tui Street, Fendalton, Christchurch.
