NELSON. September 7. A most successful concert in the Methodist Hall; Rev. Win. Baumber presided. The first half of the programme was taken up with “Ten Temperance Talks,” and in the latter half the Y’s assisted. The children reflected great credit on the Superintendent, Miss Sutherland, and her helpers. MANAIA. September 19. Entertainment and prize giving to mark the close of the year’s meetings. A large and appreciative audience attended. Reports of the season’s work were given by the Secretary and Treasurer. Recitations and songs were given by the members. A stirrine address was given by Mrs Tait. During the interval, for attendance, essays, etc., were present! d by Mr J. Hunt, whose humorous remarks were much appieriated. Special prizes were awarded i,r the best recitations. Votes of thanks were passed to the contributors of prizes, to those who had provided essays during the session, to the church trustees for the use of the building. Refreshments provided by lady friends were handed round, the National Anthem sung, and the Benediction pro* nounced.
