OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Officers and Members of the New Zealand Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
Dour Comrades — 1 cannot let my election as President of the Now Zealand Lnion pass by without acknowledging my sense of the honour vou have conferred upon mo. I must acknowledge that the news of my appointment loft me, for a time, overwhelmed with a sense of responsibility to which I did not, and do not now, feel equal. But as you have seen lit to place me in such an imp rtant position, 1 will do my best, Cod helping me, to he worthy of it. I cannot but believe that others more suitable might have been found for a |)ost which has been so ably filled in the past by our late President. And the diffidence 1 feel in following one who has so ably filled the position, is intensified by the fact that 1 can never hope to emulate either the skill and tact she has shown when presiding at our Convention, or her power as a speaker and leader. But by God’s help 1 will endeavour to carry out niv duties with energy and diligence, hoping to be upheld by the prayers of the members of our Unions. For if they will energetically support the officers in their endeavour to make our organization a power for good in this land of ours, then, with God's blessing, success will attend the efforts. Thanking you for the great honour conferred upon me, 1 remain, Yours in White Ribbon bonds, F. COLE, President N.Z. Women s Christian Temperance Union. Cashmere, Christchurch, April 3rd, 19(H).
