A New Zealand Lady Doctor.
The first lady graduate to receive the M.I). d'gree in New Zealand took her diploma in Dunedin this year. The recipient of this honour is Dr. Margaret Cruickshank, who took the M B. degree in 1897. 1° the same year she tx'g.m to practise in Waimate, being first the assistant and the n the partner of Dr. H. C. Barclay. 'lhe high standing of Dr. Cruickshank in South Canterbury has done much to influence public opinion in favour of medical women—a wholesome change, since the
advent of the woman doctor means not only opening another avenue to workers, but the appearance of a ver> powerful factor in the social progress of the future. Dr. Cruickshank’s thesis on Infectious Disease has secured high marks and praise from the Home examiners; and altogether the honour which has been conferred on h»*r is another hopeful augury for the st aiding and usefulness of New Zealand women.
