The Curfew Ordinance.
A copy of the following “ Curfew Ordinance ’’ was sent by the Secretary of the Auckland Union to each member of the Auckl uid City Council, with a request that the Council would consider the advisability of its adoption : -
“(1). Children under six ecu yeais of age shall not be in the slieets after 8 p.m. from October to March, both inclusive, or after 9 p.m. in other 111 mills without proper guardianship. A bell or bells sli ill be rung fifteen minutes before the appointed time .*>. a warning, to be called the 4 Curfew bell, after which a child is required to be in his or her home, or oft the streets, except in the company of parent or adult guardian, or bearing a written statement dated that day, and signed by parent or guardian, declaring (hit sud child is on an emergency errand “ (2 ;. Any child so found utter the time appointed shall b liable to be warn 1 by my c< > : 1 1 1 *. rare * olficer to go home, and if, after such warning, the child shall b* found loitering on the streets, such c nld may lit* taken by said constable* 1 to ns home.” “(3). Any parent or guardian may be summoned for permitt ng his child to habitually bte.ik the said law alter having been warned in writin , and may be fined for the first offence £i t without costs, and for the s cond offence £2, and for a third or subsequent offence £5. '
