Abolishing Public-Houses. The Lancashire Quarter Sessions gave a licensing ruling yesterday which may have important consequences. For no other reason than that the public-house was considered unnecessary in its district, the Quarter Sessions Justices upheld the decision of the Darwo 1 Justices refusing to renew the licence.

The house bore an excellent character, and the tenant was in every way personally satisfactory; but the Justices held that they had a perfect right to exercise their discretion for the suppression of public-houses which they deemed superfluous. —December 2nd, 1899.
