Local Government Reform.

At the Conference called by the Canterbury Women’s Institute to conaider the question of Local Government Reform the following bodies were represented :—Boilermakers’ Union, Furniture Trades Union, Fabian Society, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Socialist Church, Women’s Political Association, Canterbury Women’s Institute, Carpenters and Joiners, Tailoresses and Pressers (unofficial), Amalgamated Society of Engineers, Railway Servants, Bootmakers’ Union, and Progressive Liberal Association. Several sittings of the Conference have been held, and good w r ork has been done in discussing and defining the powers and duties of Village Councils, Urban District Councils, Rural District Councils, and Borough Councils.
