Ordination m Toro. — In Toro two chiefs have just been admitted to deacons' orders, the first of their race to enter the Christian ministry. A few years ago they gave up their chieftainships m order that they might prepare for orders, and Bishop Tucker has the joy of admitting them both to the diaconate on August 4th. The Bishop also confirmed 400 Batoro candidates and dedicated to God's service ' a beautiful new church, built of brick, almost like a small cathedral.' It is only eleven years ago that the Bishop baptised, on May Bth, 1896, the first converts m Toro, and now there are over 30€0 Christians and 1400 communicants m the country. Six hundred and nineteen gathered with the Bishop three months ago at the Lord's Table. No wonder he is cheered on his long and weary travels as he comes to such scenes as this and recalls the recent beginnings of God's work. He confirmed m all during Ms tour m Ankole, Toro, and Bunyoro, all Lunyoro-speaking countries, 1200 candidates. It is a joy to us to read of the Bishop's restoration to his wonted vigor. Except for rheumatic pains— and they are bad enough, especially when some hundi*eds of miles have to bo traversed on foot— he accomplished his two months' journeying m perfect health.
