A DYING CHURCH.

An artist was once asked to paint a picture of a dying Church. Instead of putting on canvas a small, feeble, poor congregation m an old b;uilding, .he painted a stately modern edifice, through the open portals of which could be seen the richly carved pulpit, the magnificent organ, and the beautiful stained glass windows. Just within the entrance, guarded on either side by a " pillar of the Church," m spotless apparel, was a contribution plate of goodly workmanship for the " offerings " of fashionable worshippers. But right above the plate, suspended from a nail m the wall, there hung a small box, bearing the legend " Collection for Foreign Missions," and over the slot, through which certain contributions should have gone, was a huge cobweb !— From the " Church Gazette."
