"A Passion for Souls"
A passion for souls is a phrase that is not much used m these modern days. It is said to be old-fashioned and a bit out of date. Why this should be so I don' know. People have a passion for lots: of other things — better social conditions, better homes for the people; a passion for sport, for entertainment and for success are recognised as quite the thing. Why not a passion for the salvation of the souls of .the people? It is the soul that matters, and is the key to all other improvements.
The phrase was borne of a conviction that men and women were lost -without Christ. Yes, lost as the sheep was lost, lost as the coin was lost, lost as the son was lost It may be that modern Christianity has lost the phrase because it has lost "the conviction that men and women are lost without Christ.
Our Lord had a passion for the souls of ■ the people. When He wept over the city it was not the buildings but the souls of the people that burdened His heart of love. I, don't plead for 1 the phrase, - ! but for the experience that gave birth to the phrase. That is, a passionate love for Christ and for the souls of men He died to redeerii, for it is on© of the conditions of a rPviVal.— Extract
