THE SYNOD
There is not much to be said about this year's meeting. was short, it was thinly attended, few country members attending, and iij did not do very much. Two members, Canon Mortimer- Jones and ,Mr Holderness were prevented by sickness from attending, and votes of sympathy for them were passed. The Parochial District of Wai- • pawa presented a petition asking to be , -constituted , a Parish, which should be filially agreed to next year. There is a technical difficulty m the way and Synod thought it best to refer that to the Standing Commission for their ruling. The Standing Commission is a small body appointed by General Synod to settle difficulties m ( the interpretation of the Constitution; Canons and Regulations of the Province or of any Diocese therein. The retiring Standing Committee was reappointecfc The Board of Nomination consists of Archdeacon Mafciean, the Rev. S. F. N. Waymputh, Mr P. ; F. Hunter, and Mr R. E. H. Pilson. It' may be as well to say that no resolutions were passed, or even" discussed dealing with the liquor traffic, m spite of assertions 'to the contrary.
The assessments agreed to for Missions and for the General Diocesan Fund appear elsewhere m this issue. So also is the President's , address, which everyone ought to read.
