MOTHERS' UNION,
WAIAPU DIOCESAN COUNCIL. The first meeting of the year was held m the Diocesan Hall on Friday, March 3rd, at 2.15 p.m. Mrs Gerard presided, opening with the M.U. prayer, the prayer for Overseas Dioceses and the Lord's Prayer. There was a good attendance of the Council. Mrs. Gerard, m a happy speech, said how pleased she was to begin her work as Diocesan President, and although she had not had the expedience of our former President, she hoped to learn as she went along. She looked forward to a progressive and happy time with M.U. '.work; also said she had been most interested
m already having met several East Coast branches. The Secretary, Mrs. Cameron, read correspondence from England regarding linked branches. English branches are pleased to be linked with overseas branches. It was explained how the membership fee of 1/1 is distributed— threepence to Diocesan working funds, one penny to Dominion Fund, one penny English tribute, eightpence to the local branch. It was considered by this Council advisable for branches to appoint a librarian to look after books lent from the Diocesan Library. It was hoped that secretaries of branches would try to get members interested m the M.U. journals, especially country branches where it is difficult to procure speakers. Copies of English literature on various topics suitable for branches may be procured from Mrs Mayo m leaflet form very cheaply. Useful discussion took place. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Gerard was thanked for presiding, and the hope was expressed that she would have many happy times with Council members. F. E. DAVIS, By Request of the President
