MOTHERS' UNION.
The first Council meeting of the year was held m Napier on Friday, March 11th, at 2.30 p.m. It was preceded by a short meeting of the Executive. In the absence of the president, Mrs Williams, the chair was taken by Mrs Brocklehurst. A vote of sympathy with the family of the late Bishop was passed m silence. A letter was read from Mrs Cory Wright, urging the Union to continue its protest against the sale of contraceptives to juveniles. It was resolved,
with the help and approval of the" Dominion Executive, to circulate a petition which should be signed by as many members as possible, and presented to the Prime Minister. It was strongly recommended that all branches should include m their programme for the year some definite instructions on Church Doctrine, and attention was drawn to the papers from ChrjLstibhurch, which . could be borrowed from the Diocesan Secretary, and to four addresses on the Church, which had been obtained from England spme time ago, and a copy sent to each branch. Deaconess Mabel Henn was asked if she would allow some copies to be typed of her talk on "Linked Branches,'' so that it might be read at branch meetings. She promised to send to the secretary a few copies which could be lent. Mrs Anderson reported that the Dominion Council had recommended that the annual branch meetings be held as near to the end of the financial year— June 30th — as possible. This would make the secretaries' work simpler, and obviate the difficulty of two reports. Agreed that as it was a subject likely to lead to much discussion, it should be put on the agenda of the next Council meeting.
