IN MEMORIAM.
The Rev. Himipiri Te Wharekauri Munro. After a long and trying illness, the Rev. Piri Munro passed to his rest m Auckland on Friday night, January 7th, and was laid to rest m the churchyard at Ohinemutu on the fol* lowing Tuesday. He had a great gift as a preacher, and was specially effective as a mission preacher, when his apt illustrations and expressive use of gesture would keep even young
children listening intently for an hour. He had made a special study of the teachings of Mormonism, and he was a telling and convincing exexposer of the fallacies of that system, which at one tinie seemed to have a special attraction for many of our Maori people. In all his mission work he was earnestly and ably supported by his wife, who before her marriage had also been an effective mission worker as Miss Hera Stirling. For some years before his death Mr. Munro had suffered from failing health, and had retired from fulltime ministerial work to engage m farming. A very large gathering of his own tribe, the Arawas, assembled to mourn his death, and these were joined on the day of the funeral by a number of leading people from the Hawke's Bay district. At seven o'clock m the morning the Holy Communion was celebrated by the Venerable Archdeacon Simkin, who made a special journey from Auckland to be present. The other clergy who took part m the burial service were the Venerable Archdeacon Hodgson, Vicar of Rotorua; the Rev. Canon W.-G. Williams; the Rev. W. T. Puha, Vicar of the Ohinemutu Native Pastorate; the Rev. M. M. Tumatahi, Vicar of the Te Ngae Native Pastorate; and the Rev. H. Pokiha, clergyman m charge of the Te Puke Mission District. Deep sympathy will be felt for Mrs. Munro and her family m their loss. ' W. G. WILLIAMS, Superintendent.
