THE NEW RULE OF THE G.F.S.

An important change m Rule I is not so well known as it ought to be. The old rule was:" All those who join the Society must have borne a virtuous character and must promise to uphold the Object of the Society by the witness of their lives. Those failing to bear this witness m life and conduct forfeit their card." The new rule carried by a very large majority and m force from July, 1936, is: "All who join the Society pledge themselves, God helping them, to uphold the Christian standard of purity m heart and life." (Regulations). 'Those who injure the Society by serious failure to uphold the Object shall resign.' 'No girl shall be admitted to membership without a period of definite preparation, care being taken that she understands to what she pledges herself m the Object and Rules of the Society. The length of this period will vary according to circumstances, but should be for not less than three months.' 'A girl who is likely to do moral harm to others should not m any circumstance be admitted or retained as a member of the Society.' 'If a member, who has resigned through moral failure, is truly penitent, and her re-admission is earnestly desired and is thought advisable by the incumbent, her case shall be laid before the Central President and the Diocesan President. If their consent is given, she shall be placed on probation for a period of not less than six months, after which she may be re-admitted.'
