MISSION WORKERS.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TRAINING. (a) Training Centres. — For the present, training should be carried out at two centres only — (1) Whakarewarewa Mission House, and (2) Ruatoki Mission House. (b)Period of Training.— The trains ing should extend over a period of two years— the first year at the Mission House and the second year at St. Faith's College, Christchurch.
The Commission felt that there may be certain cases where it would be inadvisable for the trainee to be sent to St. Faith's College. In such cases a second year (if recommended by the Lady Superintendent) may be spent at the Mission House. (c) Trainees should be — Maori 18 years of age, Pakeha 19 years of age on admission. (d) A doctor's certificate of physical fitness should be required from all candidates for training. (c) Musical Knowledge. — A knowledge of Maori, Guide work and certificates m first aid, etc., whilst not compulsory, would be of great value for Mission workers. (f) During the second year's course, arrangements should be made (if possible) for a course of study similar to that taken by Mission workers under the Board of Missions, (g) Standing Committee should be responsible for fees at St. Faith's College. (h) A weekly allowance of pocketmoney should be granted to trainees by Standing Committee — 5/- for the first year and 7/6 for the second year.
