We record with very deep regret the death on Tuesday, January Bth, of the Rev. William Gawler Monckton, who, for over 21 years, was vicar of St. Peters' Anglican Church at Takapuna, and. was one of the best known clergymen m the diocese. He was 69 years of age. Mr. Monckton was born at Norwood, England, and came of an old English family. He was a cousin of Lord Galway, Governor-Gemeral-dlesignate of this Dominion. He was educated at Clifton College, and was subsequently an Exhibitioner

of Trinity College, Cambridge, where his career was distinguished.

Deaconess Esther Brand's address is 203, Southland Road, Hastings. Deaconess Mabel Holmes is living with her.

Owing to difficulty m being released from his duties m Te Awamutu, the date of the Rev. R. Aires' arrival m the Gisborne Parish is at present uncertain.

The ordination of the Rev. T. A. Moresby aa Deacon took place m Holy Trinity Church, Gisborne, on February 10th. The Yen. Archdeacon Butterfield was the preacher.

The Rev. J. Hodgson was instituted Vicar of Te Karaka by the Rev. H. Speight, under commission from the Bishop, on January 18.

The Rev. R. Hodgson was instituted Vicar of Rotorua by the Bishop on Sunday, January 27th.

On Sunday, February 3rd, the Rev. T. Stevens was instituted Vicar of Waerenga-a-hika by the Bishop.

The Rev. F. I. Parsons was instituted Vicar of Tolaga Bay by the Rev. Canon A. F. Kail, under commission from the Bishop, on Sunday, February 10th.

The Rev. D. B. Malcolm, formerly of Gisborne Parish, after ten and a-half years m the Gonville Parochial District, has accepted the offer of the Parish of St. Mary's, Hawera.

Dr. Baddeley, Bishop of Melanesia, is to visit Sydney m March, m order to place before the Australian Board of Missions many important matters concerning the welfare of the Mission.

We regret to learn that the Bishop of Christchurch had to enter the St. George's Hospital on account of illness, and trust that his Lordship will make a speedy recovery.

The Rev. D. Thorpe, assistant curate at St. Mary's, Timaru, has been appointed to the charge of Banks Peninsular, a cure which was held by his father, the Rev. F. H. Thorpe, for some years. • The Right Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, M.A., Bishop of Polynesia, leaves his Diocese on March 12th on a visit to England m order to further a scheme for the unification of the appeal m England on behalf of the Pacific Diocese. Dr. Toyohiko Kagawa, the noted Japanese Christian and reformer, has indicated his acceptance of the invita : tion extended to him by the National Missionary Council of Australia to visit the Commonwealth next year.
