ANNUAL MEETING OF N.Z.C.M.S.

The Annual Meeting was held m Wellington on Tuesday, 22nd August, the Rt. Rev. Bishop Sadlier being m the chair. Bishop Sadlier was elected President for the ensuing year, while the following were elected as the Executive Committee:'—Rev. Canon P. James, Rev. Canon J. H. Sykes, Rev. P. C. Long, Rev. N. S. Barnett, Mrs F. E. Corder, Mrs Leighton, Miss B. Humphries, Mr C. Edwards, Mr F. D. Strombom, Mr L. C. Hemery and Mr R. Liggins. Also (as Local Committee Representatives): — Auckland.—Miss A. E. Baiter. Nelson.—Rev. D. Haultain. Christchurch.—Rev. E. C. W. Powell At the conclusion of the business a public meeting was held under the chairmanship of Bishop Sadlier and at which Archbishop Averill, Bishop Sprott and about 150 friends and supporters were present. The Chairman gave a short account of the foundation of the English C.M.S. m 1799, its early history and its connection with New Zealand. Then of the formation of New Zealand C.M.S. and its work up to date. Miss V. Opie, who followed, gave some details of the work m the Women's Hospital at Ranghat. Archbishop Averill spoke next on the work of the C.M.S. m New Zealand and of the great work of the Chairman, Bishop Sadlier, for the whole missionary cause m New Zealand. Miss Tobin gave to the meeting the special message entrusted to her by the Synod of Kwangsi Hunan, being an appeal for four additional workers. The meeting closed with the Blessing, pronounced by His Grace the Archbishop.
