Dunedin. — The beautiful new Church of St. Peter's, Queenstown, was consecrated by the Rt. Rev. the Bishop of Dunedin on Wednesday, November 23. A lych gate at the entrance to the grounds, a gift of parishioners and others to the memory of Capt. Hicks, whose bequest made possible the building of the Church, was also dedicated on the same day. "Take Care Of The Pennies."— We notice with interest • that many parishes m the Dunedin Diocese
have inaugurated "Penny Schemes." One ambitious centre is aiming at raising I§o,ooo pennies. The days of princely giving may not be over, only suspended, but meanwhile it is surely a wise policy to make it possible for even the smallest contributions to find a useful place. Perhaps Waiapu could learn a lesson from that careful Diocese wherein the proverb "Every mickle makes a muckle" is given a place of honour. Christchurch. — The Bishop appointed a Sunday m Advent on which retiring collections should be taken up m the Diocese for the restoration of Church property damaged by earthquake m Waiapu. The Rev. G. N. Watson, of Temuka, has> b,een appointed Vicar of the Opawa Parish, and is succeeded at Temuka by the Rev. C. L. Mountfort. The Rev. Canon Neild, of Te Aute College, conducted a Retreat for Clergy at College House on December 6—9. Ordination.— To the Priesthood, the Revs. J. Evans) assistant at Timaru, and I. Hopkins, of Rangiora; to the Deaconate, Messrs Thorpe and Childe, at the Cathedral on St. Thomas' Day. The Diamond Jubilee of St. John's, Woolston (Nov. 13—20), and St. John's, Leeston (Dec. 11), were enthusiastically observed. At the latter, Canon Staples Hamilton, the first Vicar, was the preacher.
