Under this title there has recently been published, by authority of the Standing Committee of General Synod, a brochure of the social work of the Church of England m New Zealand. It is a publication which should be brought to the notice of every member of the Church m New Zealand. In it will he found, what has never before been properly placed before the public, the true answer to the question : "What does our Church do for the fatherless and motherless, the homeless, the outcast, the travellers who have fallen by the way." Perusal of the brochure will stow that upon the institutional social work of the Church m New Zealand (omitting St. George's Hospital m Christchurch) there is annually spent the sum of £51,784. A short and clear statement will there be found of each of the individual social activities of our Church, with profuse and excellent illustrations of the various homes, missions, hostels and hospitals. Of special interest, doubtless, to the members of this particular diocese will be those pages which are devoted to St. Mary's Home ajb Napier, St. Hilda's Home at Otane and the Abbotsford Home at Waipawa. It is muclh to be doubted whether the public have ever realised the fuli extent of our Church's activities m the work of social welfare and that amongst its already existing institutions, some suitable object for almost every possible form of benefaction may well be found. Copies of this pamphlet, if not already to hand, will shortly he available for anyone interested, and may be obtained through the Vicars of every parish m the diocese. This most interesting and instructive compilation is the work of the Rev. Canon K. E. Mac Lean, of Havelock North, who is to be most heartily congratulated on the finest exposition yet jjiroduced of the social work of the Church. H. Holderness, Hastings.
