WAIPAWA.
We are loking forward to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the consecration of St. Peter's Church. The Church, was consecrated by Bishop Cowie on Whitmonday, May 21, 1877. • SI;. Mary's, Waipukurau, was consecrated on the .following day. We intend to keep our jubilee 'during the week following May 21st. We have not yet decided upon the details, but the full programme will be published shortly and all former parishioners are invited to join us m our thanksgiving for fifty years of progress. We are specially anxious for a lull gathering of all friends who were connected with the: parish m its early days and who are still living within reach. We shall be grateful for the loan of photographs either of the Church or of early Church workers, and of the clergy who have been vicars or assistant curates m the parish, and particularly of churchwardens and vestrymen who have held office m the parish. We should.also value any short notices and records connected w.ith the early days.. We guarantee the return, of all loans if the senders will kindly attach their names and -addresses. Has anyone a photograph or sketch of the old church that was used for Divine Service before the present Church was built? Our annual meeting of parishioners is to be held on April 20th. The balance sheet has been drawn up and audited m record time. Although it shows an ; improvement m our financial position we have still a good deal to make up. before our finances can be said to be entirely satisfactory. Our income is derived directly and indirectly almost entirely from the offerings of farmers, and everyone knows thai the farmer's lot has been by no means prosperous during recent years and shows no.sign of immed..iate improvement. ; We have to thank Mr. Cecil Watson for\ two dozen sand trays for the use of the kindergarten and for . a tray m which to keep the hymn number curds, also Mr. -Biddies for various repairs m the Sunday School. Good Friday and Easter Day Services were fairly well attended., but a good many of our regular communicants were away at Easter time. St. Peter's Church was beautifully decorated for Easter Day. We have to thank especially Mrs.. Anderson, Mrs. D. Kittow and Master K. Macgregor for valuable help. ...
The 'girls- of the" GjrlVClub are planning a thorough cleansing of! the Church. In this connection we would like to. give a-hint''to all whom it may concern"—namely, that'confetti is an ABOMINATION whether the}' are scattered m the porch' or on the Church path. The beastly things stick on the soles of . the boots of all 'who enter the Church arid are deposited here, there and everywhere. They, stick on the floor and on the linoleum, and haye practically,. to be nicked up. one'by one as they refuse,to be shifted by the brooms.. N.B. —The . same objection does not apply to Mr. Whibley's rosy petals. The vicar thanks his parishioners • for gifts and generous offerings at Easter.
