General Synod.

The supreme governing body of the Anglican Church m New Zealand is the General Synod, which meets once every three years. The Synod meets this time m Auckland on ' April 27th. The session will be preceded by. a celebration of Holy Communion : at 8 a.m. m St. Mary's' Cathedral, Parnell. The official' opening of the Synod Avill take place at 3 p.m. Several matter's of great importance are to come before this Synod. Several notices of motion have already been given arid others will be tabled during the session, The first

business on the order ..paper- will be. a motion for the election, of a primate. At the present time the Bishop of Qhristchurch is : acting primate, the office of primate not having been filled since ' the '] resignation of Bishop Nevill. A bill will be introduced later to provide for a fixed primatial see. It is proposed that Wellington be the fixed seat of the primacy. The opinions of the Lambeth Conference on Reunion will be the subject of a debate to be introduced by the Bishop of Waiapu.

The Bishop of Waiapu; will also move resolutions dealing with the duty of the Church towards immigrants.

Canon P. E. James has tabled a motion urging the amendment of the Education Act m the direction of providing for religious instruction m the State schools by the school teachers.

It is hardly necessary to say that the prayers of all Church peoijle are desired that the Holy Spirit may guide the Synod m all its deliberations and actions, and that this session may be productive of much benefit to the Church. A suitable prayer will be found, m the list of intercessions m this issue.

The General Synod of the Province of New Zealand meets m Auckland on April 29th. It will be a session .of great importance. One of the subjects to be dealt wH,h is the question* of Reunion and what action New Zealand recommends to carry out the Lambeth decisions.
