St. Matthew's, Hastings.

This season of 1916 is the fifth year of the Branch's existence, and steady work has been done since the last annual report was presented. On October 4th, 1915, an admission service was held, at which twelve senior candidates became members. So far this year there has not been an admission service, but one will take place m a few weeks. In December, 1915, a Sale of Work was held m St. Matthew's Schoolroom, the result of which was a credit balance of £137, of which £50 was donated to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, the remainder being banked to pay for the pulpit m the Church. The Branch closed its 1915 session at the beginning- of December and resumed m March, 1916. A service was held m the Church, and a general meeting m the Schoolroom followed. The weekly meetings have consisted of Sewing and Elocution, Social, Lecture, and Bible Study evenings, and a couple of evenings have been given to Shakespearean readings. Sewing and knitting have been done for the various sections of War work. Great thanks is due to Mrs W. Whitlock and to Miss Walton, to the former for conducting Elocution classes, and to the latter for the very interesting and instructive lectures she has given on " The Care of the Baby." On June 22nd, the day of Intercession for the GKF.S., two services were held— one a service of Holy Communion at 7.30 a.m., and the other a service of Intercession at 7.30 p.m. In response to the appeal from England for a Hostel for Munitions workers, we are planning for an evening m October, from which we expect to raise a contribution for that very necessary work. Ruth J. Hodgson.
