Matawai.
Vicar : Rev. J. Piyott. Melanesian Mission. — The services on Whitsunday were fairly good, the weather, being everything." that could be desired. We had quite encouraging offertories for the Mission— Matawaii £l Bs, Otoko £2 12s 6d, Wha.karau lis, and Motu Bs, making a total of just about £5. We hope to double this next year. Church Site.— We are glad to be able to announce that we have every, hope of getting a further grant of £50 towards the Church site, from a fund controlled by Bishop Williams. Mr Mortleman has also been good enough to let us off the accumulated interest which will leave the parish with only £30 to find, instead of £100 as we first feared. Sunday Schools. — The Sunday School work is suffering very much for want of teachers. Mrs Bilham and Miss Winter are teaching, at Otoko and Miss Holmes at Matawai. We are m urgent need of another teacher for Matawai and one for Motu and one for Whakarau. Who will volunteer *o fill these vacancies? Our Lord says, " Suffer the little children to come unto 1 Me and forbid them not." The Vica-r cannot take these classes without neglecting most important work elsewhere. Let. us all pray that these gaps may be filled ; if we do this we need have no fear. Confirmation Classes will start almost immediately ; the Vicar would bo glad to receive" names of any who desire to offer themselves, especially from those living m isolated homes. The ladies met for their monthly Guild Meeting on Wednesday, May
3 1st. We had a very fair attendance and some useful work was put through. Articles made by the ladies can be bought at any time and they can be seen at Mr J. Emmerson's shop. Orders can be left with Mrs Carter who. is looking after the needlework part of the Guild. We are sorry we are going to lose Mr and Mrs Morton : they have been of very great service m the work of the Church here. Mr Morton was a member of the Vestry and Mrs Morton was Secretary and Treasurer* of the Ladies' Guild and a very great help m the Choir. We trust they will return to Matawai some day ; m the, meantime we wish them every success at Masterton. Miss Greenslade was elected Secre.tary and Treasurer of the Guild and is now responsible for the distribution of the " Gazette." The annual meeting-, of parishioners will be held about .the time this appears m print. We trust everyone interested m the work of the Church will attend. All male registered Church members- can. vote ; the registration book will be m the meeting room. We have difficulty m getting the posts promised for fencing the section, but we acknowledge with best thauks the oiler of Mr Buxke to deliver one hundred posts on the site free of cost. Hymns for Matawai.— June 9th (Holy Communion, 8 a.m.) ; June l6th (Holy Communion, n a.mj), 528, 261, 197., 322, 324 ; June 23rd (Evensong 7 p.m.), 224, 263, 595, 218 ; August 6th (Evensong, 7 p.m.), 217, 178, 376, ffl.
