Ormondville.

Vicar : Rev. L. Machay, B.A.

A further appeal from the Bishop has been received for funds iiu order that the Church may be aibl© to minister to the spiritual needs of those m camp. In answer to his previous appeal, the sum of £2 8s was sent from Ormondville amid 15s 6d from Makotuku. A further sum of £l 6s 6d has now been, sent as the result of ai retiring collection at Norse wood. The Vicar will, be glad i to receive and forward any further donations for this purpose, as the needs were greater tham was at first supposed 1 , owing to the extension of the camp to Tauheraukau and Rangiotu. As the morning service at Norsewood) fell on. Synod Sunday, last month, it. had to be left out, but for the future there will be a Celebration of Holy Communion there once a month at 11. Thanks to the> ready help of Mr Fothergdll, at Ormondvilie and Kopua, and Mr Dalton, at Makotuku, it was possible to hold ,all the other services on that day. There is, however, some difficulty m keeping strictly to the service list at Makotuku. Wei shall be sorry if we have to make any further alteration, but as things stand it would- appear to be necessary. Owing to the necessity of holding services m the other 1 parts of the parish, it is only possible for the Vicar to be present at Makotuku on alternate Sunday evenings, and once a month m the morning. In order that there might be the opportunity every Sunday evening of joining m the Church's service of prayer and praise, layreaders have willingly given their service, a service which often involved some real self-sacrifice on their part, and 1 for which help the Vicar must express his gratitude. The attendance at these services does not seem to Justify their continuance, and sorry

though' we shall be to do so, it may be necessary to discontinue one or both of them. The Vicar would like it to be known that any offerings he receives at Baptisms or Churchings will : go to a special thankoffering> fund, and that any money received for this fund will be devoted to providing a number of things which are necessary for the proper furnishing of our Churches ; 7s 6d is 1 at present m hand. Our chief need at present is for Communion Linen, as there is not a proper set either at Ormondville or Makatu'ku, and it is a necessity if bratea with dive reverence. It is pasthe Holy Communion is to be celesible to get such linen through Deaconess Esther Brand, at Napier ; a complete set costs under £i, m fact, little more is 1 charged for than the cost of the material, practically nothing for the work. The rain has come at last, and although it has somewhat affected our Sunday services, we are all rejoicing to see it. BAPTISMS. " The Child of God." James John Herbert Lean. Alfred James Packer.
