Vicar: Rev. J. A. Lush, B.A, Curate : Rev. Lionel Machay, B.A. S. Luke's, Havelock North. The Children's Services in Holy Week were well attended. It is a very short walk or run from the day school to the Church. On Good Friday Intercessions and alms were for the Jerusalem* and the East Mission to the Jews. Prayers are especially asked at this time for the workers and work around' Jerusalem. The Church wais beautifully decorated for Easter, and helped to contribute to the joy of the Easter services. Lent offerings for the Church of England Waifs and Strays Society, tog-ether with the a'lms at Children's Service on Easter Sunday, amounted to two guineas. On the Wednesday in Holy Week, members of S. Matthew's Choir, Bastings, sang Stajner's " Crucifixion " in our Church. We are very grateful to them for coming-, and hope they will make it an annual visit. ' .We had our Harvest Festival on Low Sunday, It was a joy to see in the Church offerings of fruit from those who have had a bad season. The fruit and > vegetables were sent to the Children's Home in Napier. On the Festival of the. Annunciation services were held; in connection with the Mothers' Union : 7.30 a.m. Holy Coiram union, 2.30 Litany and Address. We hoped more members would' have been present.
On April 15th, first meeting of the Mothers' Union^-15 present. Officers were elected as follows : President Mrs ljusk, Secretary Mrs Holmes, Council Mesdames Allan, Bone, Carr, Rich, Toop. In view of the fact that there ' are so many activities at the present time, it was agreed that there should be a monthly devotional service, first Thursday of the month, followed by tea in the schoolroom. The GJT.S. started work on April 13th'. It has been decided, to work for the Hostel in Napier. The pulpit and screen Easter offerings have improved the appearance of the Church ; also the carpet' for the Sanctuary of the little Chapel. The Missionary Sewing Guild will beg-in work on May 11 th in the Schoolroom. Some are asking whether they might do work at home for the Melanesian Mission. The answer is "yes, most certainly." On April 6th the C.RM.S. Bible Study lead us into the problem, of freewill and detenrination. A very useful discussion took place. April 20th, paper on " Retreats." It has been decided to organise a retreat in Havelock this year for all who would l[Lke to come. Our sympathy goes out to Mr and Mrs MoKeesick and family in their ■sorrow. George was well-known to many, and hadi been Secretary to the S. Oswald's Guild'. He possessed! that great gift of being natur,a ! ily very bright. May he rest in peajce. Ascension Day.— -Intercessions and alms for the Sunday School. Though on a Thursday, remember it is ai great festival. Whit Sunday. — Intercessions and alms for the Melanesian Mission. St. Mark's, Clive. Miss Taylor has been appointed organist in place of Mr George Thornton, who has resigned. Mr Herbert Hague has gone to Trentham, and so Mr T. Cushinig has very kindly taken over the duties of Treasurer for a time. A Men's Meeting was held om April 16th, and from the results of that meeting it is hoped to form a branch of the C.E.M.S., attached to the Church. The Rev. J. B. Brocklehurst, Vicar of Hastings, preached for us on our Patronal Festival. The Sunday School concert is on May 11th, in the Public Hall. MARRIAGE. • Ernest Grbome to Marjorie Machiven.
