Girls Friendly Society.

The 76th Council meeting was held at Bishopscourt on September 12th. The Bishop of Waiap.u was m the chair and the following ladies were present: — Mesdames Sedgwick, Mayne, Txtke, Nairn and £topford, Misses White, E. Williams, Pallot and Ada Williams. Deaconess Esther Brand and Messrs F. W. Williams and G. F. Morley also attended. Apologies for absence were sent by Mesdames Hansard, Ziele, Callender and Miss Jardine. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letters were read from Mrs Colquhoun and Mrs Crawford. ,• Mrs Colquhoun wrote to say that at present the appointment of an Organising Secretary could not be arranged owing to insufficient money being promised. Mrs Crawford, Hon. .Secretary of H. E. Lady Liverpool's fund,, wrote thanking the Diocese for the help that had been given by Mrs T. H. Lowry and the various -branches m sending fifty shirts, fifty pairs of pyjamas and fifty pairs of socks for the Expeditionary Force. The Bishop on behalf of the Society welcomed Deaconess Esther Brand, and said she would be of great assistance to them m their work. It was arranged to hold the annual meeting on Wednesday, November nth, at 3.30 p.m., and the Bishop kindly undertook to preside. The festival, m conjunction with the Mothers' Union, was fixed for Wednesday, November iSth ; the Bishop consented to arrange the usual services and preach the sermon. Mrs Sedgwick was asked to make the necessary arrangements with the Mothers' Union. Divine Service was to be held m the Cathedral at 2.15 p.m., and all were invited to tea at Bishopscourt afterwards. The Secretary reported that 'one G.F.S. member, Eliza Power, had arrived from England this Aveek. Mr F. W. Williams presented a report from the Building CommitTtee recommending the purchase of a cottage on Sea View Terrace and presenting ' . a plan of suggested alterations so as to provide eleven bedrooms and the necessary living rooms. They suggested that alternative tenders m wood and concrete should be called for. The Council adopted the report and

authorised the Committee to purchase the property and take what steps might be necessary to provide the required buildings. To enable the Society to acquire freehold property, it was decided to get it registered and incorporated under one of the Acts dealing with the subject, the decision as to which Act it should be incorporated under to be left to the Building Committee who were to obtain information on the subject from other centres. •
