S. Augustine's, Napier. Vicar: Rev. Canon Tuke. It is pleasing to state that since the Sunday devoted to the special offertory for closing the financial year free of debt, many other sums were forwarded to the Churchwardens, bringing the offertory to about £35. The response from so many Church families was very encouraging. The annual meeting of Parishioners will be held on the 23rd inst.. Notes of interest on the year's work by the Vicar, attached to the balance-sheet, carefully prepared by Mr. S. E. Wright, the People's Warden, have been distributed among the congregation, a large number of whom we hope to see at the meeting. The members of the Mothers' Union are sincerely sorry to hear of the Secretary, Mrs. McClurg, losing her child through meningitis. Their sympathy and prayers will go out to herself and her husband m their sad bereavement. There are several of our Parishioners laid tip m the hospitals *of our town, and some have undergone severe operations. We all hope to see them fully restored and home again soon. Some new members of the Choir have been enrolled. These are some young boys who are being trained by Mr. and Miss H. Robinson at 7.30 p.m. each Friday, before joining the practice at 8 p.m. under Mr. H. L. Herston. The C.E.M.S. meetings of late have been made interesting by the keen discussions that have taken place. The subjects of " Unity " and " The Bible m Schools " were discussed at length, and from many points of view. On^e get the members thoroughly interested, the attendance will' not be likely to fall off. We are all sorry to 'lose Brother Ball, whose attendance has been exemplary at our meetings, as it has m the Sunday school as a teacher, and at the Church services. His children have also attended regularly

as scholars. They will be much missed here, and welcomed at All Saints', Taradale, m which Parish they will reside. The first meeting of the Parish Branch of the Mothers' Union was held on the last Wednesday of June, when the Bishop kindly came and gave an address to the Mothers m the Church before they adjourned to the schoolroom. There were some thirty mothers present, to join m the Litany and prayers read by the Vicar, and to listen to the Bishop's helpful address. Mrs. McClurg, who volunteered her services as Secretary, was busy m the schoolroom taking the names of the mothers with a view to future enrolment. Mrs. Averill, the President of the Diocesan branch, spoke of several important matters about the working of a branch. After afternoon tea, some closing words were added by the Bishop, whom, the Vicar thanked for coming to start the branch. It was a very promising meeting, and all present and many more we expect to see at next week's meeting. At a meeting of the United Tennis and Croquet Club, held m the schoolroom!, it was decided to get Mr. J. I J . Smith's advice about the best way of improving the grass courts, m answer to an appeal for £50, some £39 was contributed m the room, thus assuring a hearty response after canvassing all other members. The ladies propose to hold a two, nights' entertainment at a later date m aid of the Club's funds. The result of the meeting was encouraging, and the Club ought to be well patronised now that rules have been proposed whereby every player will have an equal chance of a game. The Ground Committee were asked to meet and discuss other matters with the Trustees at an early date. BAPTISMS. " Suffer the little children to come unto Me." Eric Reynolds. George Gaisford Beatson.
