S. Augustine's, Napier.

Vicar: Rev. Canon Tuhe. Curate : Rev. C. L. Wilson. The Vicar has ixiuch regret m notifying our subscribers to the "Dawn of Day" that owiing to Messrs Orerar and Wilson's agents" action iii London, our "Dawn of Day" back numbers will not reach here until May. These agents, who have been replaced by others, sent four numbers back to 'the S.P.C.K. office saying they were no longer agents. This action compelled the Vicar to have a cable sent to order their despatch! at onoe. Our subscribers are therefore asked to excuse th's unavoidable and vexatious delay. Messrs Crerar and Wilson very generously arranged to have the cable sent. We are glad to welcome some new Choir members. With their addition, the Choir has been well strengthened, and the music at the Good Friday and Easter services was well rendered. Holy Week services were held each day. The early celebration was attended by a few faithful Communicants, and Evensong had a fair attendance. Good Friday services were on the whole fairly attended. The lantern service m the schoolroom on Wednesday m Holy Week was largely attended. The beautiful Passion slides were again found helpful to many. The children's singing of the "Story of the Cross" with true devotional spirit was a striking feature of the service. The Lenten self-denial box m the Church contained £1 10s. 5d., which, m accordance with our Bishop's request, will be given to the Bible m Schools League Fund. A short visit from the Rev. Arthur Milgrew, a former respected Parishioner, was paid to our Sunday school, where he addressed the scholars on his work among the twenty thousand Indians m Fiji. Mr. Milgrew is on the S.P.G-. staff, and has done much good work m this mission, where, alas ! he is single-handed. The cyclone which visited his station, Labassa 1 , last year ruined his house, and did much other damage. We. were all glad to welcome our old Parishioner herg,

The Easter Day services ' were" well attended. A great many of our people are away from town at '■■> this time, so that it is difficult to gauge what number of Communicants you can expect, There were 158 present at the Easter celebrations, We hope to have more next year. The Church was suitably decorated by one or two faithful and valued workers. More should volunteer to help m this work. Next Sunday we hope to have the Church again tastefully decorated for the Harvest Festival. Sunday school prizes are to be given out next Sunday afternoon. The G.F.S. work will soon be m full swine: again, and we hope to see many new members join, this cheerful society for our girls. The Vicar would much like to find someone to take the junior physical drill class m hand this winter. The Vicar hopes to arrange to get a short holiday this month, while he has Mr. Wilson's services. The two years for which Mr. Wilson was engaged will terminate at the end of the month (April), and a social evening will be arranged to give him a suitable farewell. Mr. Wilson has been offered work m several parishes, but at present his future sphere of work has not been determined.
