CHRISTCHURCH.

Bible m Schools.— A large number of meetings have been held under the auspices of the League. An opposition League has been formed, but so far nothing, much has been done. At the 'distribution of prizes at Christ's College, the new headmaster, Mr. Belcher, spoke of the absolute necessity of imparting to boys' and girls' educational careers some 'distinctive religious influence. He intends next term to extend the daily chapel service to the day students as well as to the boarders. He regards the chapel service as the very centre of all public school life. No old public school boy would deny its influence. This influence was, he- admitted, very largely unconscious, but it was nevertheless most potent. To secure the highest success m this new step, Mr. Belcher appealed to the parents of. the boys for their co-operation.
