Taradale.

Vicar: Rev. A. P. Clarice. Lay Header: Mr. McGutcheon. The Missionary Tea held m the Parish Hall on Wednesday, 23rd August, was an unqualified success. It was many years

since a sit ddwn tea had been held m the Parish, and the comparative novelty appeared to attract, for notwithstanding other attractions it would have ..been difficult to accommodate a larger number of people. There were three large tables presided over respectively by Mesdames Horsefield and 0. Brown, Misses Golding, E. Davis, A. Brown, and C. Clarke, these ladies being ably assisted by many others. After tea a musical entertainment was given, which was much enjoyed by those present. Those who took part m this were Mesdames 0. Anderson, Wil. Brown, Misses Croker, I. Langley, Clarke, E. Richardson, Eddy, Atkins, Hannen, Sear, Ross, Dumble, Elsie Harris, and Messrs. Broadie, Wood, and Jarvis. The Vicar distributed the Sunday School prizes at Pakowhai on 20th August, when it was gratifying to see several of the parents present. Great praise is due to Mrs. Wilson and Miss Westmoreland, who are so painstaking m their work as teachers. We very much regret to have to record the sudden death of Mrs. Rifndle, a most devoted mother and a good neighbour. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family, all of whom are regular attendants at All Saints' Church. The funeral, which took place on Wednesday, 30th August, was very largely attended. The pulpit at All Saints was occupied by Rev. F. H. Spencer on Sunday, September 17th. He preached a most earnest and helpful sermon. The annual meeting of the Taradale Branch of the C.E.M.S. was held on Tuesday, 12th September, most of the members being present. The report shewed a satisfactory state of affairs. Three new members were nominated. The Missionary Sale has been postponed until Wednesday, 25th October. Gifta for the various stalls will be most welcome. The following are the various stalls : — Pot Plant and Flower, Plain Sewing, Fancy, Produce, Sweets, Book, Refreshment. Gifts are especially requested for the Fancy Stall.
