Rotorua.
Vicar: Yen. Archdeacon Tisdall, M.A. Curate : Rev. Our town has been more crowded this Easter season than ever with visitors. The weather, unfortunately, was rather unsettled but might have been much worse. During Holy "Week regular services were held every evening with special readings and addresses on the Atonement. On Good Friday, besides the ordinary services, the Vicar took the Three Hours' Devotion, and m the evening the Choir rendered Stainer's beautiful setting of the " Story of the Cross." On Easter Eve a number of willing hands tastefully decorated the Church for the Easter Festival. All the services on Easter Day were splendidly attended, a very large number of worshippers coming to the Holy Communion. In the evening the Church was packed to overflowing, and the service was most hearty and uplifting. Our Lenten Self-Denial Offerings this year were asked for the Bishopric Endowment Fund, and amounted to £26, which sum has been duly forwarded to Archdeacon Ruddoik. We greatly regret the departure from ooru r midst of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Thompson and their family, who have gone to Auckland, and taken up their abode m S. Paul's Parish. Mr. Thompson was a valued teacher m our Sunday School, and Mrs. Thompson was' a member of our Sanctuary Guild. We shall find their places very hard, to fill. The tender of Mr. J. Williamson for £235 for the erection of our new Church at Maniaku was the successful one. . The contract has been signed, and we hope foon to see the building started. The Church folk at Mamaku have been waiting a long time for their Church, but it has been worth waiting for, and will be erected on about the best site m Mamaku. When it is built we hope to have regular services m it, The Vicar is expecting Mr. P. C. Davis to join him early m May, and then hopes to get m touch with some other centres of settlement. The members of the C E M.S. are busy arranging for a men's social gathering on May Bth. Our first gathering of the kind was m August last and was a very great success. Miss Griffin, of the Mission House at Whakarewarewa has returned from her holiday to India, and we rejoice to welcome her back again. With her return the Mother's Union will begin its monthly meetings again. The Vicar is also seeking her help m starting a local branch of the Girls' Friendly Society. Note.— Received too late for May number of Gazette.
