S. Augustine's, Napier.

Vicar : Rev. Canon Tuhe. Curate : Rev. G. L. Wilson. The services arranged for Holy Week were well attended. The Lenten Services held m the schoolroom attracted many of our young people and children of the Sunday School. The quiet and reverend behaviour was exemplary. The "Story of the Cross' was sung by many children's voices to a simple setting, w,as good to listen to, the devotional spirit being manifested. The pictures were that Avell known and beautiful series shown each Holy Week, and which never grow old, or less helpful. Miss Faulknor kindly presided at the organ. On Good Friday, the services were well attended, and on Easter day the congregations were large all through the day, especially at evensong, when it was difficult to accommodate the people. The Bishop gave a very clear and convincing address on the Resurrection, and afterwards admitted seven new members to the C.E.M.S. _ The' communicants attended m large numbers, the total being 154. The choir sang all the Eas,ter music very nicely and the anthem at night was especially good. It was a pity so many of our men were absent m the morning. The floral decorations were m .good taste, and a credit, to those who gave their time to do them. On Maundy Thursday the Bishop donfirmed a few young people who had been prepared by the Vicar. A very helpful service was held m Bishop's Court-chapel, where the confirmees listened to some wise words of counsel from their Bishop before the solemn laying on of hands. > . We are all looking forward to having the help of a Curate and by the time this number of the "Gazette" is issued, Mr Wilson will (D. V.) be at work amongst us. . A parish . social to welcome Mr Wilson, and to introduce him to the parishioners will be held on the 26th. The Bible-class for teachers and others has made a fair start, and it is hoped many will attend regularly on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings m the vestry. The G.F.S. members are specially requested to join the class, and to attend their monthly meeting m the schoolroom on ,the first Tuesday of each month when the meeting will be of a social character. The first of these

meetings was promising of more interest, being taken m them. Miss Whittaker will visit us. this week, and, doubtless give another stirring address. " The C.E.M.S., strengthened by several new members, should make a good start with their winter programme, which promises to be an interesting one. The Bible reading at our last meeting was taken from the first chapter of the Gospel of. S. John. A letter from Preb. Stuart says that he is kept very busy making arrangements for the Church Congress, which this year will be held at Stoke. The Sunday Sqhool prizes were presented lately to the many scholars who had gained two-thirds marks. An evening is promised to the children at an early date, when a lantern exhibition will be given. Miss Dora Starkey has joined the ranks of our teachers, and was welcomed last Sunday by the Vicar and fellow-teachers. Miss Gordon has returned to her class, which Miss Faulknor kindly took for her, is now doing the same for Miss Macfarlane during her absence. BAPTISMS. Mabel Ivy Gertrude Orr, Arthur C.
