" Watch and Pray, lest ye enter into temptation." Almighty and Everlasting God, who hatest nothing that Thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent ; create and make m us new and contrite hearts, that we worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of Thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness ; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let Thy merciful ears, 0 Lord, be open to the prayers of Thy humble servants, and grant us grace so to observe this fast of Lent, that, withstanding all the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil, we may, with pure hearts and minds, follow the holy steps of Thy Son Jesus, m all lowliness, meekness, and patience; and, resisting with Him even unto the death, may attain the blessed hope of Thy kingdom, through the same Thy beloved Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen. • 0 Lord Jesu Christ, Who, for our sakes didst fast forty days and forty nights, and, watching unto prayer, didst suffer Thyself to be tempted of the Devil; grant Jjhat by Thy grace we may chasten and subdue our flesh, and overcome all sinful affections. May no temptation defile us or separate us from Thee, but rather cleanse us and unite us more closely unto Thyself, Who, with the Father and the Holy Ghost art one God, world without end. Amen,

0 Heavenly Father, whose dearly beloved Son has taught us that whosoever will be His disciplo must take up His Cross and follow Him; help us with willing hearts to bear the cross of self-denial, that, mortifying the flesh with the affections and lusts thereof, we may be strong to resist temptation, and to walk m the narrow way which leadeth unto life eternal ; through the same, Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 0 God, Who hast revealed Thy glory by Christ among all nations, preserve Thy holy Church throughout the world, and grant that it may persevere with steadfast faith m the confession of Thy holy Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty God, who hast given Thine only Son to be unto us both a sacrifice for sin and also an ensample of godly life ; give us grace that we

may always most thankfully receive that His inestimable benefit, and also daily endeavour ourselves to follow the blessed steps of His most holy life ; through the same, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 0 Saviour of the world, Who by Thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us; save us and help us. we humbly beseech Thee, 0 Lord, Amen. 0 Lord, we beseeoh Thee, mercifully hear our prayers, and spare all those who confess their sins unto Thee; that they, whose consciences by sin are accused, by Thy merciful t pardon may be absolved ; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
