Detail, Nieuw-Zeeland (Den Haag: Kompas, 1946). The Dutch government is believed to have given this map to post-WWII Dutch immigrants to New Zealand to help with their pronunciation of New Zealand place names. It shows a mixture of actual Māori, Dutch and English spellings, and Dutch phonetic pronunciation of Māori and English place names. Some basic facts and geographic information are shown on the maps, such as a relative picture of New Zealand and the Netherlands. The map was donated to the Turnbull by Maria Anderson (née Giesen), whose father received it from the Dutch government when he immigrated to New Zealand in 1952.
