Mile End, Auckland. Rock And ReLoad
Dear Sir, Having read Troy Ferguson’s review of the Metallica concert, I wonder why did he bother to go? Having been a fan since 1984, if the Load and ReLoad albums are ‘middle of the road’ then Troy is Journalist of the Year (not). I was in Wellington the previous night and thought both concerts were fantastic. I do agree the set list and between song patter was the same or similar, but saying the audience were tricked into singing a song (‘The Memory Remains’) off ReLoad was rubbish. The backing vocalist on that song, Marianne Faithfull, lives in Dublin — is she expected to be on tour Troy?
Obviously the audience will take over the backing vocals on the song. If Metallica have made ‘recent mistakes’ then RipltUp made a mistake sending Troy Ferguson to review the show. Please let Geoff Dunn review future metal/hard rock concerts. R.J. Adrian, Auckland.
