KNOWING MARILYN MANSON

I am writing to correct a mistake I have seen twice now in your magazine, regarding the industrial band Marilyn Manson. The mistake has been in two copies of your periodical to date, being that the album Smells Like Children is the band’s debut. In fact, this is the band’s second album. The first, Portrait of an American Family, was released in 1994, and as you will see, contains the original versions of some of the remixes seen to be on Smells Like Children. Portrait of an American Family was also co-produced by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), and is well worth paying some attention to, considering the songs are just as good, if not superior to anything on Smells Like Children. Stacey Arnold, Whangaparaoa.

John Russell replies: The version of Smells Like Children that features remixes of tracks originally on Portrait of an American Family, is Marilyn Manson’s debut release in New Zealand, through MCA Records.
