UNLAWFUL ENTRY

Part of the Saint-From-Hell genre, this suffers from having its thunder stolen by previous genre hits Hand That Rocks The Cradle and Single White Female. Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) is the LA Cop who goes ever the edge and starts pursuing Madeline Stowe, happy wife of Kurt Russell. This occurs after Liotta responds to their call for assistance after being burgled. Taking his police oath To Serve and To Protect a little too far, Liotta insists on fitting them up with a burglar alarm, allowing him the opportunity to ingratiate himself into their lives. Russell soon learns that Liotta's intentions are less than honourable but his wife says phooey and wonders if her hubby is losing it. Some interesting points are made about the futility of messing with someone who has the law on his side, but the film neglects to properly establish why/how Liotta goes over the deep end. He just does.
