Description of Newman’s Patent Silent Flusher

We illustrate the latest type of Silent Flusher to be placed on the market. The patentee is Mr. A. W. Newman, of Feilding, who has furnished us with the following particulars. An air valve is formed at the top of the cistern syphon pipe and is controlled by a metal float box which is adjusted

to operate the air valve through an attached lever arm. When the water is nearing the bottom of the cistern the float box drops by gravitation and opens the air valve which prevents the suctional noise of the water, thereby making the' cistern silent. . The buoyancy of the metal keeps the seat of the air valve tight when the cistern is full. The seating of the air valve is made air-tight with rubber so that no air enters the syphon, before the flushing commences.
