Our Competition
Motor Number. We reproduce the winning prize for the special cover design competition for the Motor Number. The judge has awarded it to Mr. Harold Mathewman, of Queen St., Auckland. The judge's comments on the other design (not reproduced), are also given : Judge's Remarks. Mr. Mathewson's design is a good composition, well balanced, well carried out, and the idea is excellent. Time flying by in his motor is surely the fastest thing one could wish for in the matter of speed. The centre picture in the design is distinctly good; the ornament surrounding it is a little too profuse and not too well carried out. The lettering is, fortunately for the eyes of the public and the feelings of the designer, very good indeed. Altog< ther an unusual and unique design. Mr. H. Allison, of Christchurch, sends a fairly good drawing, which shows the result of much careful thought, but he has rather missed the point. To have a stationary car, no matter how well drawn, does not suggest the idea of speed. The lettering is especially good. Try again. A suggestion for a design has been forwarded by Mr. Peter Ellis, of Auckland, but it was not suitable for reprrduction.
