Gray Young is calling tenders for the erection of a residence, Fairlie Terrace, Kelbume. He is also building a summer residence at Muritai for Messrs. Muir and Rose. Mr. C. Tilleard Natusch has recently let a contract to Mr. Mouldey for the erection of a fine club house for the Manawatu Golf Club, on the Hokowhitu links. The architect's estimate for the works was £1200, and the close tendering points to a careful preparation of plans and specifications. The tenders received were as follows: — Mouldey, £1128; Sollitt Bros., £1146; Blackburn, £1200; McAlister, £1207; Hopwood & Son. £1215; Union Timber Co., £1240; and Win. Glendinning, £1470. A start will be made with the works immediately in order to have the club house in readiness for the opening of the comingseason, and the work will be carried out under the supervision of Mr. C. Aleck Natusch, who is in charge of the architect's branch office at Palmerston North. Messrs. Millar & Georgi are having extensive additions and alterations made to their shop m The Square, Palmerston North. The contract for the work has been secured by Messrs. Collit Bros. Ltd., at £916. Architect. C. Tilleard Natusch. Mr. C. Tilleard Natusch is calling for tenders for a large and fully equipped modern country residence at Makatuku, I-1.8 . for Mr. Jonathan Holden. This residence will add yet another to the many already erected on classical lines in diferent parts of the country from the designs of Mr. Natusch, and is entirely apart from the old English style with which the public generally associate his name. In the course of a few days Mr. C. Tilleard Natusch will be calling for tenders for extensive additions and alterations to a residence in Hobson Street. =* * # A two-storied departmental store, now in course of erection on the main road. Upper H-att. is approaching completion. The building, which is being erected by Mr. J. T. Benge, is constructed entirely of concrete. having steel reinforcement throughout. The accommodation provided includes, in addition to the main retail department which has an uninterrupted floor area of 1140 square feet; sitting room, office, kitchen and scullery, with verandah, on the ground floor, and on the first floor 3 bedrooms, bathroom, and 4 large offices. The walls are plastered throughout with Elastic Pulp Plaster, and the ceiling of the shop is of fire-resisting stamped steel. The building has been designed by Mr. C. F. B. Livesay, architect, to be used in

conjunction with the adjoining premises, and to be occupied by the adjoining owner, Mr. J. A. Hazelwood. The Trustees of St. Matthew's, Brooklyn, have decided to erect a vicarage. The site selected for the purpose is on that part of the church property which faces Garfield Street, and is immediately to the west of the present church. Mr. C. F. B. Livesay has received instructions to prepare designs providing for drawing-room, dining-room, and study, the latter to be used for holding vestry meetings, kitchen, with five bedrooms, and the usual offices on the chamber floor. Mr. John T. Mair, A.R.1.8.A., has lately returned to New Zealand, after several years' study in America and England, and intends settling in "Wellington. At present he is preparing drawings for a new church and Sunday school for the First Presbyterian Church, Invercargill. Mr. R. Marshall, architect, Invercargill. reports : — Additions and alterations to residence in Ellis Road, East Invercargill, for Mrs. S. Rabbidge. Price, £235. Contractors, Messrs M. and H Mair. Invercargill. Residence in brick and reinforced concrete for Mr. N. Christie Enwood, South Invercargill, £850. Contractor. Mr. A. Menzies, Invercargill. Three shops and hall in course of erection at Otautau for Mr. W. Saunders in ferro-conerete. Day labour. Estimated cost, £1500. Extensive alterations and additions to residence in South Invercargill for Mr. Thomas Fleming which have just been let by contract to Messrs. M. and H. Mair, Invercargill. Price, £797. Plans are in preparation for bungalow farm residence for Mr. D. C. Legat, Burnside, Winton. Tenders for the erection of a new Masonic Hall at Gore. The front is to be finished in the lonic order The outside walls are of pressed brick, having black joints, and the whole of the walls and ceilings inside are to be finished with pulp plaster, with Keen's cement columns, and arch in the east. The centre of the hall is to be paved with rich ornamental black and white marble tiles. Special care has been taken with the ventilation, which is on Boyles' system. The seats are all upholstered and the inside measurement of the main hall is 50 feet by 25 feet. Mr P. Walker, the well-known architect of Invercargill has been (compelled by pressure of work to take a partner. Mr. Annisin, late of Melbourne, has therefore joined him in commodious offices in Briscoe's Buildings. Spey Street, Invercargill.
