Otaki Native College.
llie buildings which have been erected at Otaki for the Porirua Trustees, for the purposes of a Native College and hostel, are now completed, and present a handsome appearance. Mr. E. Coleridge is architect for the buildings, which have been erected by Mr. Jas. Craig at a cost of £5400. Tho building for the hostel ha& a frontage of 100 ft., and an aveiage depth of 60ft., and is two storeys high. A verandah, 80ft. long and 10ft. wide runs along the east side of the building, with both ends closed in with glass. A patent petrol gas has been introduced for the lighting system, which may be used for heating and cooking purposes if required. A small hand lift connects the linen room upstairs with a well-equipped laundry below. All the interior woodwork, with the exception of that m the pantry, bathrooms and three rooms which are painted ivory white, is of picked rimu, oiled and finished with copper fittings. Modernised old-fashioned open fiieplaces have been introduced into the principal rooms. The college building is near the old Maori church, and will contain an assembly hall, 40ft. by 3o±t., two large class rooms, teacheis' rooms, etc., and will accommodate 100 pupils. Both buildiugb stand upon conciete foundations, and the roofs are finished with asbestos slates.
