Residence of P. Suckling, Khandallah.
This is a house of seven rooms erected byMessrs. Humphries Brothers. It stands on j commanding site, one of the best in the attractive suburb of Khandallah, overlooking the Lower Hutt Valley and the Harbour. In the design nothing has been forgotten that ought to be found in a commodious modern home, and thus it comes to pass that the house is replete with comfort throughout. The rooms are well proportioned and have been skilfully arranged.
The decorations are pleasing by reason of the excellent colour effects, artistic and striking without being the least tawdry. The workmanship all over is of the best, and the contract was successfully carried out by the contractors in every way. * * * A modern brick shop and consulting room, with a seven-roomed residence and conveniences, is being erected in Patea for Mr. Percy A. Walker, chemist. The work is being carried out by day labour by Mr. Howell, of Wanganui. Architect, Mr. J. H. Mr. Mitchell has just completed the new works at Nelson, whose first shipment of 14,500 carcases was taken by the Bakaia on 21st April. # # -Hf Mr. Burr has also in hand the preparation of plans for several semi-detached residences in the city. Mr. A. S. Mitchell, of Wellington, has received instructions from the Tokomaru Sheepfarmers' Freezing Co., Ltd., to prepare plans and call for tenders for building machinery for their new works at Tokomaru Bay, the cost to be about £50,000. Mr. J. M. Walker, architect, of Queen street, Auckland, has just completed a residence at Epsom costing £1000. lie has in
course of erection two more, costing respectively -£900 and £1000. w # v In the competitive design called for by the vestry of St. Mark's, Remuera, for a new church, the first prize fell to Mr. Gray Young, the well-known architect of Wellington, and the second to Mr. James Page, of the office of Messrs Turnbull and Sons, Wellington. The double victory for the Empire City is much appreciated in architectural circles. The new church is calculated to seat 600 persons, and the cost is not to exceed £7000. The first prize in the competition was £50, and the second £25. # # * The financial situation is easy. Increased building proves it, and the larger railway revenue corroborates
