A. H. HART Canterbury Representative of Messrs. Baldwin & Rayward. 1848—1908.

We regret much to announce the loss of Mr. A. H. Hart, our valued representative in Christchurch. Mr. Hart died suddenly on October 3rd while walking to his office, and his death cast a gloom over the city where he was extensively known,

having been established in business there for nearly thirty > ears Born in Birmingham in 1848, he arrived in Lyttelton in 1879, and commenced practice as an architect. In 1890 lie added a patent agency to his business,, being the first Patent Agent registered in Canterbury under the "Patents Designs and Trade Marks Act, 1889." Mr. Hart established communications for this branch ot his business throughout the world, and had conesponding agents in S> dne} , Melbourne, Washington, New YoLk and London. About seven >eais ago Mr. Hart ceased practice as a Patent Agent on his own account, and became the representative in dinteibury ot Messrs. Baldwin & Ra\waul. As an architect Mr. Halt designed many fine residences, and* as a decoi ative artist he was responsible lor a large amount ol illuminated work in the form of presentation addresses, this work being marked by a high degree of taste and aitistic leeling. A man of sterling character, geneious disposition, and conspicuous abiht\, he is missed b\ main Iricnds and a large business connection.
