New Welsbach Incandescent Kerosene Oil Lamp.
It is now o\ei tour years since the Welsbach Company fiist mtioduced. the Incandescent Kerosene Oil Lamp to the New Zealand public. During this peiiod it is said to have had many imitators, and the public have now a wide acquaintance with this foim ot lighting. It has remained, however, for the pioneer company to finally solve the problem of a perfect incandescent oil lamp combining all the advantages with none of the drawbacks peculiar to the old types. What has been wanted was a lamp requiring the minimum of attention for the maximum of efficiency, and this is claimed for the new lamp, attention to which is directed in another column. It is claimed, and this the company are prepared to substantiate, that the handling of this lamp is almost as simple as turning on an electric light switch. There is no wick trimming, which was a feature of the old types, no wick to laise or movable spreader to adjust. The mantle is hung on a frame which ensuies its always being centred, while the shape of the mantle renders the life of it almost everlasting. In fact, the lamp is the nearest to perfection that one can look for in a light of this kind, and anyone desirous of possessing the very latest in oil 'lighting should make themselves acquainted with the new lamp, which may be seen at the company's showroom in Victoria street.
To cross the Atlantic in the old Cunarder "Biitannia" cost 2%d. per mile first-class; now, though the time has been reduced to a third by the " Mauretania, " the fare has only dropped %d. a mile.
