Among chucks, etc., for power lathes one of the most remarkable is Clements' driver, Fig. 3. For heavy work and for turning long shafts this un-
proved driver, invented long ago by Mr. Clement, of Lambeth, ha<= been widely adop+ed. It differs from one form of the ordinary drivers in having two driving pins instead of one and m having them fixed in an outer plate instead of 1 1 that which is attached to the mandril. This outer plate is capable of sliding laterally for a short distance, thus accommodating itself to any inequality in the width of the opposite ends of the carrier ; bj which means each of the pins is made to transmit an equal share of the driving pov, er.
