New Garage for Wellington.

f I We publish, through the courtesy of Messrs. Thos. Turnbull & Son, the front elevation and giound plan of the proposed new garage for Wellington. The site is an irregular one through from Lambton quay to Ballance street, but the plan is arranged to give the greatest possible amount of clear floor area on the ground floor, only the entrance halls at either side encroaching on this The whole of the grcmnd floor will be devoted to motor-car showrooms, wide arched doorways on either side enabling cars to be driven right through from street to street ; while large corridors provide space for show purposes. In the basement to Lambton quay will be a workshop for repairs, a specialty designed lift being pro\ ided for low ering and raising the cars. The other section of the basement will be utilised for cold storage purposes. An entrance from both streets gives access to the upper floors, the principal entrance and elevator being at lambton quay side. The upper floors, three in number are arranged in suites of rooms of various sizes. Light is introduced into the very centre of the building by means of a large central well with a gallery around. Areas for light at other points are also introduced. By this means ample light will be obtained, and all the various rooms, shop floor, and basement, will be well lighted. The exteriors have been designed in a quiet, digniPed manner, a simple breadth of treatment being aimed at rather than ornateness.
