Exhibition Schedule.
We have received from the Commissioners of the New Zealand International Exhibition the schedules of the " Home Industries " section. The " Home Industries " competitions are particularly directed, as the title implies, to the encouragement of coloniia ingenuity and industry. An important point to be remembered in connection with them is that the work of the individual is to be given preference over that of firms and factories. The commercial and industrial classes, whilst open to all, afford special opportunities to students of technical schools ol all grades to practically demonstrate the value of the theory that is therein taught, and for that purpose such students can enter not only any of the sections throughout the schedules, but the sections specially set apart for them. With a view to increasing the interest taken in technical education, it was thought that complete sets of exhibits, showing the methods adopted in some of the best technical schools in the world, would be most interesting to the public and students, and of special use to many of the teachers engaged in the various schools. As the best means of accomplishing this object, the " Home Industries " Committee asked the assistance of the Minister of Education, which was readily granted. Letters have been sent to some of the leading technical schools in England, Germany, America, France, and Australia ; and it is hoped that a most interesting and instructive display will be made of modern educational methods and appliances. There are forty-three sections under " Home Industries," embracing all degrees of mechanical, commercial and domestic work. Entry forms are contained in the book of schedules.
