BRIEF FOREWORD.

With this issue Progress becomes permanently enlarged — a condition testifying amply to public appreciation of our pages. The new architectural section in the current number, presided over by a leading New Zealand architect, commences auspiciously with specially written articles, and ■with illustrations and particulars of some of the colony's best buildings. In all other departments our desire to create a journal of higher interest has concretely manifested itself. What we have done m the past is our lowest standard for what we intend doing in the future.
